Can’t Get Enough Blurb
In “Can’t Get Enough” by Kennedy Ryan, Hendrix Barry lives a fabulous life. She’s a woman with goals, dreams, ambitions—always striving upward. And in the midst of everything, she’s facing her toughest challenge: caring for an aging parent.
Who has time for romance? From her experience, there’s a low ROI on relationships. She hasn’t met a man who can keep up with her anyway. Until…him.
Tech mogul Maverick Bell is a dilemma wrapped in an exquisitely tailored suit and knee-melting charm. From their first charged glance at the summer’s hottest party, Hendrix feels like she’s met her match. Only he can’t be. Mav may be the first to make her feel this seen and desired and appreciated, but he’s the last one she can have. Forbidden fruit is the juiciest, and this man is off limits if she plans to stay the course she’s set for herself.
But when Maverick gives chase—pursuing her, spoiling her, understanding her—is it time to let herself have something more?
Can’t Get Enough Review
Let’s just start by saying that I thought the book, Can’t Get Enough was phenomenal. Kennedy Ryan has this notably inspiring way of weaving and drawing together these vivid and imaginative images from her words. Hendrix’s story is no exception to this standard.
Hendrix is the epitome of an independent woman. She has her own money, aspirations, family, and confidence.
In-depth Comparison of Recent Contemporary Novels and This One
This idea can seem a little foreign in current contemporary romance publications. For example, a little while ago, I viewed a TikTok where the creator, Deeva, detailed a consistent observation in newly released romance novels. Under the guise of making a main character seem relatable, there must be an essence of self-deprecation that only the male lead can fix.
Whether it be a plus-sized character, a dark-skinned black woman, a woman in poverty, etc., to remain seen as a relatable female lead, she must abhor those parts of herself. There are fewer and fewer depictions of a woman having flaws and recognizing her duality with self-assurance and confidence. Hendrix portrays the exact opposite. As a woman, even in some of her least desirable moments, she recognizes her humanity and does not see her “flaws” as such. The significance behind this is earth-shattering.
Relationship Analysis
The relationship she enters with Maverick is based on self-assurance throughout. Not to mention the amazing relationship with her found sisters, Soledad and Yasmen, who embolden her to pursue her love with Maverick, regardless of the consequences. Encourage and remind her that she is living this life for herself. Even though she is a woman chasing her dreams, it is ok to concede to true love. This story is a true testament to a woman’s dual nature: that we are allowed to walk in love while also prioritizing ourselves. We do not have to give uncompromising parts of ourselves to find a man. A man who truly understands will find us and accept us, ambitious goals and all.
I found not just her relationship with Maverick amazing but also her relationships with herself, her sisters, and her mother. Through reading of her mother’s condition, it is noticeable that Kennedy Ryan took her time and fleshed her character out. There were good and bad days, but this author did not allow her condition to keep her from finding who she was as a person. The reader is given a glimpse into her past, present, and potential future.
Final Thoughts
All in all, Kennedy Ryan has written a masterpiece with Can’t Get Enough, and quite frankly, this book has resonated with me more than any of her other books in the Skyland series.
I won’t quote this book as my last review in order to avoid placing stuff in my review that might not be in the final product. Even though I received an ARC for this novel, my review of Can’t Get Enough remains true, as I will definitely still be purchasing. THAT is how much I love this book and Kennedy Ryan.
